South Korea’s People Power Party (PPP) has attempted to clarify its political stance by adopting a resolution opposing the “Yoon Again” movement ahead of the June 3 local elections, but internal divisions and leadership concerns remain.
According to political sources on March 10, the ruling party recently held an emergency general meeting of lawmakers and adopted a resolution rejecting the “Yoon Again” movement while emphasizing party unity. The move reflects growing concern within the party that public sentiment has turned increasingly negative ahead of the upcoming local elections.
Several lawmakers welcomed the decision, saying it was overdue but necessary. They argued that unclear party direction had made it difficult for candidates to campaign effectively on the ground.
Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon also reacted positively after the resolution was announced, describing it as the beginning of meaningful change within the party. Observers say the decision could affect the party’s nomination process for local election candidates.
However, criticism of party leader Jang Dong-hyuk’s leadership continues. During the meeting, Jang did not make a direct statement on the party’s policy shift, only saying that he respected the consensus of lawmakers.
Some lawmakers have also suggested an early transition to an election campaign committee, arguing that a new leadership framework may be necessary to improve the party’s chances in the local elections.
