U.S. President Donald Trump warned that the United States would respond with overwhelming force if Iran blocks oil shipments through the Strait of Hormuz.
In a post on social media on March 9 (local time), Trump said that if Iran stops oil traffic in the strait, the U.S. military would strike Iran 20 times harder than before.
He stressed that any attempt by Iran to disrupt oil flows through the Strait of Hormuz would trigger a powerful response from the United States.
Trump also warned that such military action could leave Iran unable to rebuild as a nation, saying the country would face “death, fire, and anger.”
However, he added that he hopes such a situation will not occur, signaling that the warning was intended to deter escalation.
The Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most critical oil shipping routes, is not officially closed, but many commercial ships have avoided the area after Iran’s Revolutionary Guard threatened attacks on vessels passing through the strait.
Trump’s remarks come amid rising tensions in the Middle East and concerns over global oil prices, which recently surged past $100 per barrel before retreating.
