The National Tax Service has announced that applications for earned income and child tax credits will be open from May 1 to June 1.
Approximately 3.24 million eligible households will receive notifications. Payments are expected to be made earlier than the legal deadline, around late August.
The earned income tax credit provides up to 1.65 million won for single households, 2.85 million won for single-income families, and 3.3 million won for dual-income households. The child tax credit offers between 500,000 and 1 million won per child.
Eligibility is based on both income and asset thresholds. Applicants must meet specific criteria depending on household type.
Households that have already applied through the semiannual system do not need to reapply, with adjustments scheduled for June.
Applications can be submitted via mobile, PC, or phone services. Assistance is also available through a dedicated support center.
Notably, the automatic application system has been expanded to all age groups, allowing eligible households to receive benefits without reapplying for a certain period.
The agency will also pilot a generative AI chatbot service to provide 24/7 assistance during the application period.
