The South Korean government has issued a full travel ban for Iran as security concerns escalate due to worsening tensions in the Middle East.
According to the foreign ministry, the measure was taken after military attacks involving the United States and Israel heightened instability in the region, raising serious concerns for the safety of South Korean nationals staying in Iran.
Iran had previously been under a Level 3 travel advisory, which recommends citizens leave the country. However, the latest decision upgrades the warning to Level 4, the highest level, effectively banning travel.
Under the new rule, South Korean citizens who visit or stay in Iran without special government authorization for passport use may face legal penalties under passport-related regulations.
The government also urged citizens planning to travel to Iran to cancel their trips and advised those currently in the country to leave the region as soon as possible.
Authorities said they will continue monitoring the situation closely and take additional steps to ensure the safety of Korean nationals abroad.
