Several cargo ships were reportedly attacked in Middle Eastern waters as the war involving the United States, Israel, and Iran entered its twelfth day.
According to the UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO), a cargo ship traveling through the Strait of Hormuz was struck by an unidentified projectile. The impact caused a fire on board, and crew members were forced to evacuate the vessel.
A separate incident was also reported near the coast of the United Arab Emirates. A container ship was hit by an unidentified projectile about 50 nautical miles northwest of Dubai. Fortunately, all crew members were reported safe.
The attacks occurred amid rising tensions in the region. The Strait of Hormuz is a crucial global shipping route through which about 20% of the world’s oil supply passes. Iran has previously threatened to block the strait following the outbreak of the war.
The United States has responded by targeting vessels and facilities believed to be involved in laying naval mines in the area. With civilian ships now being attacked, concerns are growing about maritime safety and global energy supply disruptions.
