South Korea’s stock market moved higher as the benchmark KOSPI index rose more than 3 percent during trading, reclaiming the 5,700 level.
The index opened with gains and continued to climb throughout the session, expanding its upward momentum during the day.
Institutional investors led the rally, recording net purchases worth around 6 trillion won. Meanwhile, retail and foreign investors showed net selling, limiting some of the gains.
Among major stocks by market capitalization, large-cap companies in the semiconductor, automotive, and biotechnology sectors mostly traded higher. Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix each posted gains of around 2–3 percent.
By sector, brokerage stocks recorded the biggest gains, while financial, insurance, and retail sectors also showed strong performance.
The secondary KOSDAQ market also moved upward, rising more than 2 percent during the session. Institutional investors were net buyers in the KOSDAQ market as well, while individuals and foreigners sold shares.
Market analysts said the Korean stock market may maintain relatively stable momentum, supported by semiconductor stocks despite uncertainties related to Middle East tensions and oil prices.
