The South Korean government has launched a nationwide initiative called “AI for Everyone,” aiming to make artificial intelligence a common tool used in everyday life by citizens.
The policy focuses on expanding access to advanced AI models and improving the public’s ability to use AI technologies. By increasing accessibility, the government hopes to accelerate the adoption of AI across society.
Companies that provide services using government-supported AI foundation models will be given access to application programming interfaces (APIs) and government computing resources such as graphics processing units (GPUs).
The government will also create an integrated online AI learning platform and provide in-person education programs in community facilities such as local centers and senior welfare facilities.
A nationwide AI competition will be held throughout the year, featuring various events including AI application contests, quizzes, robotics challenges, and creative competitions for students. The winners will be recognized at an AI festival at the end of the year, with total prize money of about 3 billion won.
Officials also plan to provide customized AI education programs for students, the general public, and digitally vulnerable groups. The long-term goal is to deliver AI education to about 33 million people by 2030.
In addition, the government will establish AI ethics guidelines and launch research programs to address potential side effects such as AI overdependence among youth.
