Amid ongoing ceasefire talks between the U.S. and Iran, average gasoline prices in South Korea have surpassed 2,000 won per liter for the first time in nearly four years.
According to Opinet, the nationwide average gasoline price reached 2,000 won per liter as of 7 p.m. on April 17, up 0.9 won from the previous day.
This marks the first time since July 2022, when prices surged following the Russia-Ukraine War.
Diesel prices also climbed to 1,994.2 won per liter, nearing the 2,000 won mark.
In Seoul, gasoline prices have already exceeded 2,000 won, averaging 2,030.6 won per liter, while diesel reached 2,016.7 won.
Global oil prices have risen due to uncertainty surrounding U.S.-Iran negotiations. Dubai crude stood at $101.8 per barrel, up $0.7 from the previous day.
International gasoline prices increased to $120.9, while diesel slightly declined to $172.2.
Experts note that global oil price changes typically take two to three weeks to impact domestic fuel prices, suggesting upward pressure may continue.
