The United States is estimated to have spent about $3.71 billion (approximately 5.4 trillion won) during the first 100 hours of its military operation targeting Iran. The estimate was released by the Washington-based think tank, the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS).
According to the analysis, the total cost includes operational expenses, logistical support, ammunition use, and combat-related losses or damage. A large portion of the spending is believed to come from the use of advanced precision weapons and military equipment.
Ammunition costs alone were estimated at around $3.1 billion, as U.S. forces reportedly launched thousands of munitions to strike nearly 2,000 targets during the early phase of the operation.
The scale of the deployed forces is also significant. The U.S. military positioned two aircraft carriers, 14 destroyers, three littoral combat ships, and submarines across the Arabian Sea, the Persian Gulf, and the eastern Mediterranean. In addition, more than 200 aircraft have reportedly participated in air operations.
The research institute estimates that if the current level of deployment continues, the operation could cost at least $30 million per additional day, especially due to the high cost of naval and air operations.
Some of the spending may not have been included in the previously approved defense budget, raising the possibility that the U.S. government could seek additional funding. If that happens, political debates in Congress over the budget are likely to follow.
