Regional tensions are escalating as China and Japan intensify military activities around the Taiwan Strait.

Taiwan’s defense authorities reported that China’s aircraft carrier Liaoning recently passed through the strait, marking its first appearance in months.

The move came shortly after a Japanese naval vessel transited the same waters, drawing strong reactions from Beijing. Japan has also taken part in the multinational military exercise Balikatan, expanding its regional military role.

In response, China has increased joint naval and air force operations and deployed warships into the western Pacific. While Beijing describes the drills as routine, it also highlighted their deterrent purpose.

Both sides continue to exchange criticism, with Japan emphasizing compliance with international law and China accusing Tokyo of expanding military influence.

Analysts warn that the situation reflects broader geopolitical rivalry and could lead to further military escalation in the region.
