Samsung Electronics is restructuring its home appliance business by shutting down low-profit production lines and shifting to outsourcing.
The company recently outlined its strategy internally, aiming to improve profitability amid intensifying global competition and rising costs.
Some product lines, including dishwashers and microwaves, will see production reduced or outsourced. Samsung also plans to close its long-standing manufacturing plant in Malaysia.
The move comes as the company faces growing pressure from low-cost competitors and increasing material and logistics costs.
Samsung plans to focus on premium and AI-powered appliances, including its “Bespoke” lineup, while expanding into the HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) sector as a key growth driver.
It will also strengthen its presence in B2B markets and subscription-based appliance services, while targeting new opportunities such as data center cooling solutions.
The company views this restructuring as a critical step to transform its appliance business into a more profitable and sustainable model.
