Lee Jae-myung emphasized advanced technology cooperation during his state visit to Singapore on March 2, highlighting artificial intelligence (AI) as a central pillar of bilateral collaboration.

In a summit meeting with Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, President Lee underscored the importance of strategic partnerships amid growing global uncertainty. Ongoing U.S.–China trade tensions, Middle East conflicts, and energy price volatility have reinforced the need to diversify economic alliances, he noted.

Following the talks, both leaders announced plans to review their Free Trade Agreement (FTA) framework to better reflect evolving trade and economic security conditions. They also discussed the broader impact of geopolitical instability on global supply chains and energy markets.

AI cooperation emerged as the key theme of the visit. South Korea brings strengths in manufacturing AI and high-bandwidth memory (HBM) hardware, while Singapore is recognized for its advanced financial ecosystem and regulatory innovation. Officials believe the two economies can complement each other effectively in next-generation industries.

President Lee attended the “AI Connect Summit,” where he stated that close collaboration between governments, companies, and academic institutions could position both nations among global technology leaders.

Beyond AI, the two governments signed memorandums of understanding (MOUs) to expand cooperation in small modular reactors (SMRs), energy technologies, space development, and quantum research. President Lee expressed hope that the two countries would move forward “like brothers,” reinforcing their strategic partnership.
