Authorities in Japan have secured around 40 billion yen in assets from the Unification Church as part of ongoing liquidation proceedings aimed at compensating victims.
A court-appointed liquidator has frozen bank accounts and is overseeing the management of the organization’s assets to facilitate restitution.
The Tokyo High Court upheld a lower court ruling ordering the dissolution of the group, enabling formal liquidation to proceed under court supervision.
While current compensation claims amount to several billion yen, the total liability could increase as more victims come forward.
The liquidator has also collected financial records from hundreds of facilities nationwide and is restructuring the organization, including workforce reductions.
Meanwhile, reports suggest that former members are preparing to establish a new group to continue religious activities. The organization has filed an appeal with Japan’s highest court.
