Iran has announced it will not participate in upcoming negotiations with the United States following the seizure of an Iranian-linked cargo ship near the Strait of Hormuz.
According to IRNA, Tehran rejected the planned talks in Islamabad, citing continued maritime blockades and shifting demands from Washington.
The move came shortly after Donald Trump revealed that U.S. forces had intercepted and taken control of the vessel.
While both sides appear unwilling to sustain a long-term closure of the key shipping route, they are escalating pressure to gain leverage in negotiations.
The main sticking point remains Iran’s nuclear program. The U.S. is pushing for long-term restrictions on uranium enrichment, while Iran demands sanctions relief and recognition of its rights.
Internal divisions within Iran between diplomatic and military factions are also complicating the situation.
Analysts say a quick agreement is unlikely, though a temporary extension of the ceasefire could still be considered to avoid further escalation.
