Tensions in the Middle East have escalated after Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed that it struck a U.S. Navy aircraft carrier in the Gulf of Oman. The announcement on March 1st alleged that the USS Abraham Lincoln was hit by multiple ballistic missiles, but U.S. forces have dismissed the claim.
According to Iran’s state media, the IRGC said it targeted the carrier strike group with four ballistic missiles, declaring that enemy forces suffered significant damage. The statement included rhetoric threatening further action against what it described as “aggressors.”
The U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) responded swiftly, labeling the Iranian assertions as false. CENTCOM stated that the Lincoln was not struck and that the missiles reportedly launched by Iran failed to approach their intended targets.
U.S. military officials also noted that the carrier strike group remains active in the region, supporting ongoing operations aimed at countering perceived threats.
The conflicting reports highlight deepening tensions in the region, prompting international calls for de-escalation and transparent verification of events.
